Below are answers to common questions patients ask before visiting Sol Endodontics. If you do not see your question here, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
What is an endodontist and when should I see one?
An endodontist is a dental specialist who focuses on diagnosing and treating the inside of the tooth, including the pulp and root canals. You may be referred to an endodontist for persistent tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, or infection. Endodontists also evaluate cracked teeth and dental trauma, and provide treatments designed to preserve natural teeth whenever possible.
What can I expect at my first visit to Sol Endodontics?
Your first visit typically includes a review of your symptoms, diagnostic imaging as needed, and a thorough evaluation by our endodontist. We will explain what we see, discuss recommended treatment options, and answer your questions in clear, patient-friendly language. Our goal is to help you feel calm and informed, with a plan that prioritizes comfort and predictable outcomes.
Will root canal treatment be painful?
Most patients are surprised by how comfortable root canal treatment can be with modern anesthesia and endodontic techniques. The purpose of treatment is often to relieve the pain caused by infection or inflammation inside the tooth. You may feel mild tenderness afterward, especially when biting, but it is usually temporary. Our team will review what to expect and how to stay comfortable during recovery.
How long does a root canal appointment usually take?
Appointment length can vary depending on which tooth is being treated and the complexity of the root canal anatomy. Many cases are completed in a single visit, often within about 60 to 90 minutes. Some situations may require additional time or a second visit to support proper healing. We will review your specific case during your evaluation and outline what your visit may look like.
What is endodontic retreatment, and why is it needed?
Endodontic retreatment may be recommended when a tooth that has had prior root canal treatment develops new symptoms or shows signs of persistent infection. This can happen due to complex anatomy, delayed healing, or new decay or damage that affects the seal of the tooth. Retreatment allows the endodontist to re-clean and re-seal the canals to support healing and help preserve the natural tooth when possible.
What is an apicoectomy, and when is it recommended?
An apicoectomy is a microsurgical procedure used when infection or inflammation remains near the tip of the root after treatment, or when retreatment is not the best option. The endodontist removes the inflamed tissue and seals the root tip to support healing. It is often recommended for specific cases where a surgical approach provides the most predictable outcome. Your evaluation and imaging help determine whether this treatment is appropriate.
Do you treat cracked teeth or dental trauma?
Yes. Sol Endodontics evaluates teeth that may be cracked, fractured, or injured from accidents or impact. Symptoms can include pain when biting, lingering sensitivity, or swelling. Using advanced diagnostic tools, we assess the tooth and surrounding structures to determine whether endodontic treatment can help preserve it. Prompt evaluation is important because early treatment can reduce complications and support better long-term outcomes.
What technology do you use, and how does it help?
Advanced technology supports more accurate diagnoses and more precise treatment. Sol Endodontics uses modern imaging tools, including CBCT 3D imaging, to evaluate teeth and surrounding areas in greater detail than standard X-rays alone. Magnification and microscope-assisted techniques help the endodontist see fine canal anatomy and complete treatment with accuracy. These tools support efficient care and a comfortable experience for patients.
What insurance do you accept, and what payment options are available?
Sol Endodontics accepts most PPO dental insurance plans unless otherwise noted. We do not accept HMO plans or Medicaid. Our team can help verify your benefits and review an estimated patient portion before treatment begins, so there are no surprises. At this time, the practice does not offer in-house payment plans or financing programs. Please contact us if you would like help understanding your coverage.
